I was born in Essen, Germany as the youngest in a family of two girls. My father's profession as a mathematician was the reason we moved. I have lived the majority of my life in Texas. Yet, I have also spent the extent of almost every summer in Europe, and returning whenever I can. Through many years of people insisting on having to label me something, I call myself a German-Texan. Half of heart belongs to Germany and the other half to Texas.
Art to me is seeing the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary. I use that skill to embrace the small joys in life, because I believe it's the little things in life that make life worthwhile. I taught preschool to highschool level for fifteen years. Due to the influx of social media, technology, etc. I always tried to instill this belief in my students as well.
My inspiration comes from people, loss, love, places, nature, memories, dreams, and the simple things in my life. I use my art to express myself when the right words are not available to me. Many of my paintings and photographs reveal my questions or statements about society, powers of authority, and love. I believe art is open to interpretation. I welcome hearing what viewers have to say about my pieces.
All of my work done between 2015 and 2020 is under my former married name of Deonarine.
